I'm not the only one proud of Canada!

In case you were wondering what my name is about I am saying this because mcleans.com wrote an article mentioning that the rest of the world views Canada as a very contributing, and popular country. It is true, Canada is viewed very highly around the world. Last summer I went on a trip to London England with my family. Everywhere we would go people would ask us if we were American or Canadian, as soon as I would tell them my Canadian heritage their smug faces would suddenly turn very happy. One person even told my dad, after he had denied being an American and ssaid he was Canadian, said "Oh we like Canadians." Also my cousin went backpacking accross europe and he said that as soon a people saw the Canadian crest on his bag (which is meantion in the second commercial) people would immediately welcome him and allow him to stay in their homes.

It is true that Canada has a good reputation accross the world

These nexts commercials expalin why I love Canada

Are tasers safe?

The Dilema of taser use was evident in the death of Mr. Dziekanski a few days ago. I am not writting this to protest whether the police should have done what they did. Mr. Dziekanski was clearly destroying property and police were right to move in. The question is why did they use it so long, and if the length of time had nothing to do with it, why is our police force allowed to use these weapons. I ahve seen on videos people being shocked for no more than 3 seconds being subdoed and unable to move, why then did the police find it nessesary to continue charging this man after 30 seconds when he was screaming in pain. Maybe it is police procedure to charge a man for that long, but if that is the case, why? why keep charging them when there is no need? In another article I read apparently 69 deaths had been caused by taser attacks in the united States since 2000. This means it is not soley a Canadian Problem. I believe they should either turn down the voltage or shorten the amount of time they shock their suspects because another incident like this could put the police force into suspicion.

this is the video of Mr. Dziekanski being tasered by police.

Enough to get a job?

I you want to see my opinion of this video just checkout the comments on the side. I believe not only does she seem to be well qualified for the job, but she also presented those qualifications very effectively. In lecture Dr. Sevigny taught us how to present yourself in an interview, or how to present yourself to people you want to impress and gain trust. To my knowledge this girl has done a very good job of that. She had only positive things to say about herself. She also gives an overall positive vibe which helps create better chances for her. I guess what I'm trying to say is that if i was Flare I would hire her.
I also noticed that some of the pictures look they were taken in McMaster. This leads me to believe that she is from McMaster, which makes my opinion even more biased towards her success. I hope you get the internship Nicole.

What to do with Canadian ex Prime Ministers

Although most of this article was concerning Frances policies with their Primie Minister, I am only concerned with ours. I believe that ex Prime Ministers should be taken care of after their years of service; but not to the extent that the United states treats their "ex's." After a Prime Minister has finished his service there is no reason to provide them with secret service. Not only are they not in a position where their confidence would be nessesary, but also who would want to attack them? I also believe that they should not be granted access to CIA information. They are no longer required for the safety of our nation, and our nations safety could come in jepeordy if an ex decides to sell that info to certain unwated purchasers. Also in order to keep a prime Minister from becoming "grumpy" after thier service I believe that some benifits should be given. Such as, the privelledge to assist any political operation he or she feels compelled to take part in. Also it would not be a bad idea to create a club for former prime ministers to create writtings, or perhaps a club house dedicated to ex Prime Ministers that would only be accessible to former and current Prime Ministers. This would give them a sense of purpose after their years of service arecomplete.
here is the link to wikipedia which describes the role of Prime Ministers, and provides a list of all of the Prime Ministers who are still living.

Robots will NOT live Happily Ever After

I believe that humans marrying robots is a useless thing to allow. The first thing that comes to my head when i think of a man marrying a robot is the stereotypical nerd who can’t get a date and who wishes that he could marry a person who wouldn’t judge him. Well even he would not benefit from this because aside from the chase for a soul mate. People also are attracted to women because it instils the confidence to themselves that they can attract women. Also is it not a believed theory that one of the reasons divorces are becoming higher every year is because people are not valuing the effort it takes to keep a relationship working. If you can program a robot to fall in love with you, even if it is programmed exactly to your liking, it won’t be long before you begin to look for other “people” because you didn’t have to work for your relationship, there was no “give and take” so to speak. Allowing people to marry robots is only going to reduce the meaning and change the overall point of marriage. Robots might be able to replace sex or prostitutes, but they will never be able to replace marriage.

Here is a creepy video showing why marrying a robot is plain wrong.

here is another video of a podcast. It is a man describing his views on the marriage of robots.

A Fair Referendum?

The referendum voting on Ontario's new electoral system was a biased one. The major criticism is that people were not informed of this referendum. I agree with this. I myself was unaware of this until after the referendum had taken place. The worst part is that I would have voted for the new electoral system. The report given by the globe and mail also indicated that the largest number of people voting for the new electoral style, were the younger population. They also tend to be the people who are least informed about political issues. With more young adults aware of this referendum there might not have been a 63 percent defeat. To be honest I still don't know the full details of the proposed electoral system. I believe there should be a re-vote in a few years so that there is time for the news to spread of the new electoral system. This way would make the new vote less biased.

Halo is worth the Hype

I have a very mixed view with video games. I happen to be a Halo fan, but I also believe that excessive use of video games is ,well, stupid. This is why I plan not to purchase the game for many months. This way i will have played the game months after the hype is over and I will not become addicted to it. My stance on videogames is that they are very fun, but at the same time can be dangerous. Someone can easily become asddicted and sacfrifise nessesary things to paly them. I know a kid who would play video games until 5 in the morning on a school night, and then skip half of his classes sleeping in.

Halo 3 is going to be the best game out since Halo 2. We all know this. I however believe that people who line up outside of a video game store to be the first person to have the game are also stupid. All of this aside I do plan to play the game with my friends on weekends. I guess my stance is that video games, and Halo specifically are ok to play in moderation.
